Making homemade granola with Fork You!

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 28, 2007

Straight out of the heart of Philadelphia comes Fork You! Marisa and Scott (blankbaby) show us around the kitchen when they make everything from homemade granola to even trying their “hands” at the no-knead bread baking that we featured here over the weekend.

This is just one of many great episodes that they’ve put together. We recommend you check them all out. We hope to see the rest of their episodes on Viddler soon.

Drive to work with Rob Sandie

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 27, 2007

Rob Sandie (sandieman), President of Viddler, has a fairly short commute to work everyday. Moving from California his family regularly makes fun of him about our weather here in Pennsylvania. So do my parents from Florida so I feel his pain. Take a ride to work with him in My Morning Drive: 2/26/07.

Viddler does not condone video taping while driving. I’m sure Rob took all the necessary precautions when filming this video.

How is your ride to work? Do you have any video to show that off?

Bwana McCall shows us Beryl on Ubuntu

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 26, 2007

Beryl, the cutting-edge windowing system, has some really neat effects and ways of managing your system’s windows. Some of the features seem to copy off of other popular operating systems, but most of these new features are definitely exclusive to Beryl.

Viddler user Bwana McCall (bwana) shows us Beryl SVN on Ubuntu 6.2 w/ Desktop Wall which is the very latest build of Beryl.

Some of these window effects are really cool and it looks like the entire windowing system is written well enough to run even on older systems. Thanks for showing us Bwana.

Last week’s featured videos

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 26, 2007

We’re handling our featured videos slightly differently now. We’re now featuring seven videos per week and putting them on our blog. Every day, including Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be featuring one of your videos! Then, each Monday, we’ll post a wrap up displaying each of last week’s featured videos, and change the explore page to show those videos for the next week.

The featured videos for Monday, February 19, 2007 through Sunday, February 25, 2007

This last week’s featured videos were really fun to feature. With a wide-range of topics covered, we’re really starting to see an increase in the number of high-quality videos that are uploaded to Viddler (especially paintball and coffee videos). There are other trends that we’re beginning to see, but I’ll get into those in a later post.

Choosing a video to feature each day is fun, but not as easy as you’d think. I’ve gotten a few suggestions over the last few weeks, so thank you to all of you that took the time to find your favorite videos, but I’d appreciate even more help. So drop me a line and suggest away.

Amazing Wushu Masters

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 25, 2007

I am not sure when this movie was originally filmed (though it is in black and white it doesn’t look to be really old), but these Amazing Wushu Masters, uploaded by Viddler user Thomas, are incredible. High-flying acrobatics combined with precision body control and amazing feats of strength.

I wish the video was of better quality, and usually I like to feature good-looking videos on Viddler, but this was just too good to pass up.

Saturday project: No-knead bread baking

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 24, 2007

I’m a sucker for all things relating to the kitchen and cooking. When I saw this video on No-knead Bread Baking, uploaded by Viddler user Breadtopia, I knew I had to feature it here on the blog.

Now I’m on my way to go out shopping to find myself the necessary tools to make this bread! Breadtopia has their own web site featuring all things for their love of bread. I recommend you check it out and we’re looking forward to more great videos from Breadtopia.

Friday fun: Up, up, and away!

Posted in Featured, Friday fun by Colin Devroe on February 23, 2007

Although there is some debate as to whether or not this video is real ( I think it is ), it is really fun to watch regardless. Bottle Rocket Idiot, uploaded by iSheahan, shows some dude getting blown into the air with pressurized bottles strapped to his back. Watch it for yourself, let me know what you think.

Real or fake? I don’t think it matters - I just think it is really fun to watch and I’d love to try that out someday (minus the belly-flop) at the end.

That is no water leak problem

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 22, 2007

If any of you are animal lovers like I am then you have to agree with me, this video is just too cute not to feature. What do you do when your water bill is strangely high? You’d do exactly as the description of this video says: “they had everything checked for leaks or problems: first
the water meter, then outdoor pipes, indoor pipes, underground pipes,
faucets, toilets, washer, ice maker, etc.”. So it appeared what they thought was a water leak problem, but it was actually their cat flushing the toilet. Take a look.

So the next time your water bill skyrockets. Be sure to keep a close eye on your pets, because you never know what they might learn from you. I just hope they don’t start to get curious about the oven.

Gary Vaynerchuk asks: “How does weather affect wine?”

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on February 21, 2007

I’ve been a fan of Wine Library TV since the very first episode. When I thought about featuring an episode of WLTV I thought it’d be hard to pick just-one episode, since they are all so good!

However, there is one episode that WLTV released recently that stands out against all others. The episode where Gary Vaynerchuk, host of Wine Library TV and Director of Operations for Wine Library, asked: “How does weather affect wine?“. Let’s watch and see what the answer to this question is.

Hats off to you Gary for taking one for “the team” to find out what affect, if any, weather has on wine. Now get back inside, get warm and taste more wine!

Almost every episode of Wine Library TV is on Viddler and more are being added all the time. Take a look through their archives for your favorite episode and let us know what it is. Maybe we’ll feature a few more of Gary’s great wine tasting video podcast in the future.

A few Viddler enhancements

Posted in Announcements by Colin Devroe on February 21, 2007

Bug fixes are not as sexy as enhancements so we’ll stick to calling all of the following fixes; enhancements.

The entire Viddler development team has been hard at work with all aspects of the site above and beyond normal maintenance, pushing all of the current features to the next level as well as creating compelling new features that you’ll be able to take advantage of soon enough.

Meanwhile they’ve been working on fixing any issues that may arise on the site or reworking the way some of the current features work to make them work better for you. So what has changed today?

The list of ehancements

The following is a list of enhancements that were released today. There have been many enhancements to our site released, some visible and some that are fairly transparent.

Invite your friends to use Viddler with our all-new invite system. If you have some friends that you’d like to use Viddler, you can quickly type in their email address, a quick message to your friend, and send it off. However, if you have a lot of friends you can use the new contact import feature where you can use your Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or AOL mail account’s address book as the source for the invite list. If you have your contacts in your local address book, you can use the ‘from a file’ feature to quickly send invites to all of your contacts.

We hope you find our invite system easy-to-use, fast, and generally a great way to invite your friends to use Viddler and be able to comment on your videos.

Browse Most Popular videos by today, this week, this month, and all time. Now you can watch as your video climbs “the charts” or just see what other Viddler users are finding interesting lately.

Stay logged in with better “cookie” management. For quite sometime you might have been automatically logged out of Viddler fairly often. Well the next time you log in should last you a little while as the cookie that is now being set has been tweaked to allow for longer “logged in” durations.

Various other geeky tidbits include the use of rel="tag" on all relevant tag links. Although behind-the-scenes, the new encoding troubleshooter is a very well accepted upgrade by the Viddler team. A few updates to the video sharing system have been installed to stop some bugginess being experienced there. Some much nicer URLs have made their way into the mix. And there is probably about a half-dozen other small fixes that you may never notice, but should make a considerable difference in your experience here.

We hope that these recent updates serve you well. If you have any issues with our latest upgrades, please be sure to let us know. You can send me a message, use our forums, or just comment on this post.

Don’t think this is it! We’ve got much more in store for the near future. Stay subscribed.
