WineLibraryTV to be on Conan O’Brien!

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 31, 2007

By far my favorite “TV show on the Internet” and Viddler’s own poster-child WineLibraryTV ( has a big announcement today! On Wednesday night Gary Vaynerchuk, host of WineLibraryTV, will be on Late Night with Conan O’brien, as was announced in Episode #284!

WineLibraryTV has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine. It was only a matter of time before “The Thunder Show” made it to the real TV! Congrats to the WLTV team. We’re glad to have been even a small part of all of this.

Diving in Carless Reef, Egypt

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 29, 2007

According to TourEgypt.net; diving in Carless Reef (pronounced Careless) isn’t easy because “Weather conditions often make the exposed site difficult or impossible to dive.”. Viddler Tomas Hellberg (tomhe) recently shared with us a video of divers in this very reef and now we can all see how this reef is such a pull for divers.

This is a great video to showcase Carless Reef’s best features:

Reef composition is diverse, with most coral species, both hard and soft, making a vibrant and interesting coral habitat. As well as the famous eels, there are innumerable species of reef fishes. The reef’s isolation, combined with the deep water in which it lies, make it ideal for pelagic-spotting, and sharks are as likely here as at any reef in the area. Jacks, tuna and barracuda are also frequently spotted. — TourEgypt.net

Thanks to Tomas for sharing this video with us. At 22-minutes in length I found it very enjoyable to sit back, relax, and pretend I was scuba diving in Egypt!

Remember those fightfighters from Charleston, South Carolina who tragically lost their lives? If not, here is some information from Google News. Well Viddler Dawn Glencer and her show Carolina Cruiser (carolinacruiser) recently visited a benefit thrown in their behalf in Carolina Cruiser episode 56!

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy and we’re really glad that other Viddler’s have the opportunity to take part in helping them out. Thanks to Dawn and everyone involved with Carolina Cruiser for representing all Viddlers in South Carolina this past weekend.

Scheduled Maintenance on Sunday

Posted in Announcements by Colin Devroe on July 28, 2007

Hello Viddlers! I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news. What do you want first? Bad news? Ok. On Sunday at around 7am 1am Eastern Standard Time Viddler will be down for maintenance. We’re moving some data around with some shovels and wheel barrows (your data is heavy you know) and to make sure everything goes smoothly we’ll be shutting the site down for a little while.

Oh, yeah, the good news. The good news is that this forthcoming maintenance is a prelude to bigger, better, faster, and more reliable things that we’ll be delivering to you - our favorite people on the planet. A little downtime will end up yielding some very rich benefits.

Questions? Concerns? Send them my way via the forum and I will see what I can do. Enjoy your weekend!

A singing MeToday by Jason Waldrip

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 27, 2007

Jason Waldrip (jwaldrip), Viddler’s newest team member, strums his MeToday from July 27th on a guitar and sings a “Hello to Viddler”.

Welcome to the team Jason and welcome to Viddler. Once we get a few things ironed out I’ll write up a blog post explaining who Jason is, what he will be doing on team Viddler, and how his being on the team makes me really excited about Viddler’s future!

Thanks for sharing Jason.

A double-MeToday by Masto!

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 26, 2007

Viddler masto really outdoes himself here! He managed to post a double metoday from multiple angles! In his first video MeToday he shows us his camera, in his second video he shows us what his camera saw.

Don’t think this counts as two entries into the iPhone contest masto!! Great job though and you can jot me down in the jealous column regarding that camera. Nice!

Nicola Mattina interviews Simon Willison

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 26, 2007

Simon Willison, supreme chancellor of all that is openID evangelism (among other things related to online identity), was interviewed in February of this year by Nicola Mattina (nicolamattina).

Thanks to Nicola for sharing this video with us and a very big thank you to Simon Willison for all the hard work he has been putting in into educating developers, companies, and the general public about openid. I don’t think it will be too long until all of our Viddlers will be able to share in the luxury of using an openid, thanks to him and others pushing for this identity standard.

WordCamp 07: “The past, present, and future of Web publishing”

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 24, 2007

Dave Winer led a session on “The past, present, and future of Web publishing” at WordCamp 2007. Here are portions of that session.

I liked the way that Dave structured his session like a blog, where he actually started to discuss a topic and then allowed for responses (or comments). Very enjoyable and it was great to finally meet Dave Winer.

WordCamp 07: “The State of the Word”

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 24, 2007

This weekend I attended WordCamp 2007 in San Francisco California and one of the sessions that I was able to capture some video from was Matt Mullenweg’s session on “The State of the Word” (session details) which reflected on all of the things that had happened with WordPress.org and WordPress.com since the last WordCamp in 2006.

WordCamp has been a great experience and I recommend everyone trying to make it out for WordCamp 2008. I will be posting a few more videos over the next several days, so watch for those.

Giving Edwin the iPhone!

Posted in Featured by Colin Devroe on July 23, 2007

As you may already know, Edwin Villanueva (edwinv) won the first iPhone from our MeToday contest and I had the privilege of giving him his iPhone live and in person in San Francisco, California - and Edwin recorded a MeToday.

It was a delight to be able to give you the iPhone Edwin. I hope it serves you well.
