“I am not watching the Super Bowl on Sunday!”

Published January 31, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

Wait. What? The biggest game of the year, and DoctorAnonymous is saying that he isn’t watching it? I don’t believe it, you’d better watch this video to see why.

Are you going to be watching? If not, what are you going to watch? Do you care who wins the Super Bowl? If so, who will win and why? All good questions as we head towards the end of the NFL Season.

AJ’s first tasting on WineLibrary TV

Published January 30, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

As any good Vayniac will know Gary Vaynerchuk, the host of WineLibrary TV, is a family man. In Episode 395 of WineLibrary TV Gary has a special guest, his brother AJ (friend: ajvaynerchuk), who turned 21 on the day of the episode being recorded.

Not only is someone’s 21st birthday a pretty special occasion - but imagine if you were the son, and brother, of a wine-tycoon in New Jersey? What if your brother did a daily Internet video show about tasting wine? What if… you see the point.

I’ve had the extreme privilege to meet and hang with AJ Vaynerchuk and I will tell you that he is a remarkable young man, extremely intelligent, and one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Of course, it seems that these traits run in the Vaynerchuk family.

I strongly suggest you watch this special episode:

Congratulations and happy 21st to AJ Vaynerchuk. You’re a good man, with a great family, and I think your future is really bright. Enjoy the wine my friend.

Are you a Vayniac? Maybe after watching this episode you should want to be? Check out WineLibrary TV’s website for instructions on how to subscribe to the show, take part in their forums, on Facebook, get a tshirt, and jump right into what I think is the best show on Viddler.

Rob & Lauren: The Wedding Travelers

Published January 29, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

Traveling the world and shooting photos would probably the first thing on my life’s wish list. Rob & Lauren, self proclaimed The Wedding Travelers, are essentially doing just that. Here is the introduction to their show.

Their site is filled with incredible photography and videos from their travels so far. I’m really looking forward to where this show goes, and I’m happy that they’ve chosen to share their experiences with the Viddler community.

Testing our WordPress video commenting plugin

Published January 28, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Announcements

In case you missed our secret video, we’re working on a WordPress plugin that makes it quick and easy to record, or choose video comments to blog posts.

We’ve got a little ways to go with testing, but we thought now would be a pretty good time to ask anyone that would like to help us test it - to do so below. The instructions are pretty simple. You can log into your Viddler account using your normal Viddler username and password and either record a video with your webcam, or choose an existing video on your Viddler account as your video response to this post.

Here is a small list of some issues you may encounter, that we’re working on fixing prior to the release of this plugin.

  • Logging into your Viddler account, while already logged in here on the blog, seems a little counter-intuitive doesn’t it? We’re going to fix that, but for now you will have to log in.
  • Privacy, and your personal account information, is important to us. Forcing you to log in using your username and password, from any other website besides Viddler.com, would not be the more private way to handle user authentication. So, we’ll be using OAuth to make it so that anyone using this plugin on their site will not have access to your username and password. We will have this done before we release this plugin.
• If you currently have your default sharing options set to make each new video private, you may notice that recording a video with your webcam will also set that video as private. Don’t panic! Just go to that video and set it as public and your comment will appear normally. The very next version of our API will resolve this issue.
  • You can only choose from your ten most recent videos on Viddler to use as a video comment. We’d like to extend the plugin to allow you to choose any of your videos.
  • Styling. We need to make it look much nicer or our own blog.

All of these things aside, we think this plugin is really fun to play around with. So go ahead and give a spin below the comment form.

Are you getting ready for the Super Bowl this Sunday? Maybe you have a few friends coming over, you’re getting all of your Hot Wing orders in early - but did you remember chips and dip? If you didn’t, here is a Quick Fork: Super Dip from the Fork You TV dynamic duo - Scott and Marisa.

They were even nice enough to write down the recipe for the dip for us. So what are you going to have for the Super Bowl? Who are your cheering for?

How to: Make HDR photos

Published January 27, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

If you haven’t heard of HDR, don’t feel bad, not everyone has. You can follow this link to learn more, or - in short - HDR photos are photos that are a few different exposure settings combined to be one photo.

In today’s featured video, the Viddler user from Visual Photo Guide (friend: photography) explains how to achieve the HDR technique using a Nikon D50, though he does say that many of these steps are similar for other cameras as well.

If you’d like more detail about this, be sure to check our their post. Being that I have an interest in photography, I’m really looking forward to more from the Visual Photo Guide.

Mike Lee demos Delicious Library 2

Published January 26, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

Delicious Library’s next update is probably one of the most anticipated application updates since I can ever remember. In today’s featured video Mike Lee of Delicious Monster gives a pretty broad overview to Scott McNulty of TUAW.com (friend: tuaw) of some of the new things coming in Delicious Library 2. Oh, and be sure to stick around for the bit about lemurs.

So not only is Mike Lee building great software (with the help of his fellow Delicious Monsters), but he also is trying to make a difference in the world through his “hobby” of charity. Well done Mike.

And well done TUAW for finally getting some long-awaited details about Delicious Library 2 out to the public. I for one am firing up my bought and paid for copy of Delicious Library, updating my personal collection, in preparation for the next version because I’ll be first in line to buy the update.

Does it go with tea? - Blueberry muffins

Published January 25, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

One of my favorite shows is back with another episode. Viddler Chris Masto’s (friend: masto) Does it go with tea? is back to check to see if a blueberry muffin, or more specifically a buttered-blueberry muffin, goes with tea. Let’s find out, shall we?

I don’t want to give away too much, but - Yes! it goes with tea. Love the ending. What other things would you like to see Chris try with tea? I think you should send him some ideas. I have the following requests: cheese steak, Almond Joy candy bar, and cereal. I know, I’m nuts.

Thanks to Chris for another great episode!

This is not a Cloverfield review

Published January 24, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

Viddler iJustine may have called it a Cloverview review, but it isn’t. I think what happened is that when these two blonde crazy people went to go see Cloverfield, the monster came out of the screen and invaded Los Angeles! I mean, what better way to travel than through a movie screen from New York to LA?

One thing today’s feature video does show, is that with today’s software it isn’t all that difficult to create a pretty suspenseful handycam-shot video that seems pretty convincing.

I’m pretty sure Cloverfield might end up producing a lot of clones in the coming years (maybe not monster movies but handycam shot movies made for less than $50M). And I think that is a good thing. I’m hoping a lot of these things end up on the Internet for free to watch too.

Nicely done ladies, I mean - crazy people.

Ukulele lessons from Ukulele Underground

Published January 23, 2008 by Colin Devroe in Featured

I’m super excited about today’s featured video because I think this might be one of the best uses of Viddler that we’ve featured in months. Ukulele Underground (friend: ukeunderground), out of Kauai, Hawaii, is a web site dedicated to “soothe that aching ukulele addiction”. Ukulele Underground provides lessons, and minutes (short lessons), to help you learn to play the ukulele yourself!

Here is Episode 9, or Lesson 1 - Lovesong (favorite here), from Ukulele Underground - and I think it is terrific.

I really enjoy the sound of the ukulele (perhaps because I desire a trip to Hawaii at some point in my life) and so even if I’m not learning to use it at the moment, I can just sit back, relax, listen, and enjoy.

About using Viddler as their player of choice, Ukulele Underground said the following:

“We’re using a new video sharing service called Viddler for all our videos. You may notice those black circles throughout the timeline of the video. These marks are each section of the lesson so you can now easily skip around to specific parts as you wish. What’s really cool is that if you create a viddler account, you can actually embed your own comments into our videos! We hope this creates even more interaction between you guys and us.” — original post

Sometimes you’ll hear the Viddler team refer to our player as “the interfactive player” and so when we see new Viddlers joining for this very reason, we like to think that we’re actually doing something right - and that people are enjoying our features.

Thank you so very much Ukulele Underground. We couldn’t be more happier to have you join our growing community, and I for one am looking forward to a lot of great music from the islands.
