@Garry I think with site navigation, it's best to be as efficient as possible. Our old navigation scheme was cumbersome. Adding the drop down menus lets users get to their general destination quicker.

And, notice our goal was to access "every major section" of the site in one click, not "every page of the site", which is an important difference. It would've been overkill to make our drop-down menus multiple levels deep :)

Thanks for the feedback, hope this answers your question!

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for sharing your thinking. I was wondering why it was decided to "enable users to access every major section of the site in only one click". This seems pretty old school as the current thinking is that users don't mind how many clicks as long as they feel as if they are progressing towards their goal. It would be interesting to know your thoughts.

Cheers

Great post Andrew.. it's awesome that you posted on internal reactions. Love the stuff on Fitts Law and those icons look nice at second glance.. Maybe we'll have to fit those in somehow. Great work!

One more thing. The blue buttons on the You and Videos menus seem randomly sized. I'd like it better if they were equally long ;)

Now how about using it on the blog and the default -not logged in- front page? ;)

I would also like to see consistent icons through out the menus like you have for "Batch Upload" & "Record".

Good work Andrew!
