In the week leading up to April 1st we held a competition open to everyone in which you had to fool the audience of your video that you were being honest.
I’ve held all of you in suspense for long enough, so let’s announce the winners.
Foolery: Ultimate Edition
Rog42 from Sydney, Australia, tricked us in to believing that we could get a discount from Microsoft by getting a tattoo behind our ear. He really does work for Microsoft, so was really sly. See his video below.
Rog42 scored himself the option between a ThinkGeek OR Amazon gift card to the value of $100 and a Viddler t-shirt! Giddy up!
The Cheeky Tricks
The only other participant in this contest was CheekTV. Their April Fools’ Day video was featured here on the blog and showed some fantastic ways to prank your friends in and around the home. Nice! Watch CheekTV’s video below.
What? That’s it? Yup! Now we’ve got all these spare t-shirts we’ll have to figure out what to do with. Participate next time, yo.
It’s time to get pranking, punking, and plurking! Ha! I got you already; no one still actively uses Plurk, do they?
Every year Google seems to top everyone with their April Fools’ hoaxes. They sure have had some creative ones! This year I’d want to see everyone in the Viddler Community have a crack at pranking someone — nay, everyone! — with a good April Fools Day joke!
Upload your video(s) before or on April Fools’ Day (April 1st), add them to the group on April 2nd, and you’ll be in the running to win a USD$100 gift voucher from ThinkGeek OR Amazon! AND a Viddler t-shirt.
7 runners up will also receive Viddler t-shirts to prance around in!
Don’t go tagging your videos with ‘April Fools’, ‘prank’, ‘joke’, etc until April 2nd. We want your pranks to be believable. You can send me links to your video(s) once April Fools’ Day is over and you’ve successfully pranked all your peers. He he he!
No doubt you’re gearing up to visit your loved ones very soon or snuggle up with the ones you live with. I’m going to be in Texas! Yeehaa!
I feel that everyone should let their inner child go wild for the ChristmasContest this year! So I’d like everyone to make a video when they go and meet Santa to ask him for something this year.
Add the tag averygiddyxmas2008 and post it to the What I Want For Christmas groupbefore January 7th and you may just win a glorious gift basket created personally by members of The Viddler Team!
Here’s a video I made with the instructions:
Don’t leave your video until the last minute. Go out and meet Santa today.
A while ago I discovered the website Umbrella Today. It simply asks you for your zip code and determines whether the weather in your area will require you to bring an umbrella with you.
It’s a cool idea, but so is a window. Everyone has a window, right?
The requirement for this contest is to upload a video between now and the 6th of December, 2008, stating whether or not you need an umbrella in your town right now. This should be fun for all the folks up north experiencing snow squalls. Add your videos to the UmbrellaToday group.
Check out my video below for more information and find out if I need an umbrella in Phoenix, Arizona, right now.
Did I mention you could win an umbrella just for entering this contest? Yeah, giddy!
Do you have a radical idea for a contest on Viddler? Send me a message and let me know.
Jacobburke has gone and given me a heart attack with the first video response, with a costume involved not only being topless, but wearing quite a fancy skirt as well. Nothing but pure AWESOME.

October is here, which (for a lot of us) means candy corn, way too many people dressed in pointy black hats or big white sheets, ghost stories, hay rides, and me peeing my pants in at least one haunted house because I am terrified of the dark, but someone always talks me into it. Halloween’s coming!
What it also means is that for the entire month of October, I will be looking for Halloween-related videos in the Trick or Treat group and featuring them via Twitter and in the Community Spotlight.
Here’s an example of a question you could answer for a Trick or Treat video:
Other questions or topics you could cover for Trick or Treat month:
What is the best costume you ever had for Halloween?
Tell us your favorite ghost story!
Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?
Candy corn… gross or delicious?
What will be your Halloween costume this year? (Please show on camera!)
Tag video with “trickortreat” and add it to the group.
Let the fun begin! I want to see costumes and carved pumpkins, hear great stories about Halloween adventures and misadventures, and somebody has got to know a really good ghost story that they’re willing to tell with a spooky flashlight on camera. Bring on the spooky month of ghouls and goblins!
That’s right, the end of the month is approaching and this weekend is a great time to relax, enjoy the extra day off if you’re getting one, and take a look at all the amazing When I Grow Up videos.
Some of them have been really amazing, and I’ll be featuring all entries in the Community Spotlight section of the blog up until September 1st. Any valid entry will get some face time on the Viddler blog, so get your butts in gear and post a video if you want to win t-shirt-ness and stickers, and make sure that you do your part to help pick the winner! Favorite and leave comments on the videos you really enjoy.
JustJason has contributed his entry for the August Viddler vidchallenge and it’s got some great music to it, not to mention a great message at the end. Watch the video to see if Jason ended up being any of the things he imagined when he was a kid, and hear about what he does now.

Crepehanger wanted to be an archeologist when she grew up… did she end up living the childhood dream? Watch the video to find out, and thanks to Dianah for a great August Viddler vidchallenge submission.
