Viddler Mobile Video Support

Published July 11, 2011 by Ian Borg in Customer Support,Using Viddler

Viddler Business accounts support many of today’s mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, newer BlackBerry, and Android devices. This article will let you know just how easy it is to make all of your videos mobile.

Check Account Settings

By default, Business accounts have Mobile Device encoding support enabled. To make sure they are on, visit your Encoding settings.

If you’ve just turned these settings to “On” You will want to click the “Re-encode” button, which will make mobile-compatible versions of files that do not currently have them.

You may also want to head over to your Sharing & email settingsand change your default embed code. We recommend changing over to the “iframe” version, but if you need advanced features or your content management system has issues with iframes, you should choose “Flash with HTML5 Mobile Fallback”, note however, that this method doesn’t work on all devices.

Embedding

Embedding is just as easy as before. Just choose the proper embed code for your situation (iframe or “Flash with HTML5 Mobile Fallback”), and insert that code on to your site:

Published July 6, 2011 by Ian Borg in Customer Support,Using Viddler

Business clients have the ability to upgrade to our next generation of video player, which contains both new and enhancements of existing features.

Meet the New Player:

Full

Simple

Features of the New Player:

  • Completley Rewritten using ActionScript 3 – Makes the player more reliable
  • Improved Support for 3rd party Services—Including LiveRail and ComScore
  • The Ability to build your own player skins, or go chromeless
  • Backwards Compatibility – It’s not necessary to update your embed codes when you switch. All of your current embed codes will update to the new player
  • Risk-Free! For now, you are able to switch between the two player types

How to Upgrade:

Go to http://viddler.com/player-upgrade, and choose “Upgrade my players now!”, then click “Save Upgrade Choice” – It could take a few hours for the change to go through.

After Upgrade Checklist:

You may want to consider looking at the following things, just to make sure everything went as planned:

  • Check to confirm embedded players are loading – Check at least a few, and if you use multiple types of players (Full, simple) check at least one of each type.
  • Check player colors. Some upgraded configurations result in the player controls appearing hidden on mouse-over (depending on the background color)
  • If you do experience issues, please report it to our support team and/or feel free to downgrade using the same form you used to upgrade.

Viddler Partners with Mass Participation Web Series Beckinfield

Published May 23, 2011 by Ian Borg in Announcements,Business Profile,Using Viddler

We love bringing you great examples of brands breaking new ground with Viddler’s technology. Today we want to share Beckinfield.com, the first ever mass participation web series.

What’s a Mass Participation Web Series?

It’s a NEW new media experience, an ongoing web series where anyone can join in, create a character, and play a part.

It is also a social community of like minded creatives who inspire one another, collaborate on subplots, and just have a blast creating this new genre of entertainment. Or, you can just watch.

Cool! How can I get involved?

The sci-fi story of Beckinfield goes like this; citizens have been asked to record video blogs showing the world what everyday life is like in their small town. It soon becomes clear that life in Beckinfield is far from typical. The quirky residents (of which you are one) are suspicious of the local governments denials of the town oddities; snooping scientists, alleged UFOs, seemingly haunted libraries, earthquakes that “caused no damage” … and that’s just the beginning.

As a Beckinfield resident, you upload video blog entries describing your opinions of, and reactions to, these events. The format gives you the creative freedom to follow the scripted story, or make up your own. It’s a playground for creativity. And Beckinfield.com makes it even easier with weekly story updates, tutorials, and a plethora of inspiring activities.

Viddlers can shape the future of Mass Participation TV

The guys at Beckinfield are inviting all Viddlers to become a part of the future of entertainment. If you sign up at Beckinfield.com, with the promo code VIDDLER you’ll get 2 free months of full access; create and play your own character, interact with the community, peruse the tutorials and become a part of the show. They’re also inviting us to join the New Beckinfield Historical Society, to give them feedback and guidance from our experience there.

Check it out at Beckinfield.com, promo code VIDDLER.

Look Sharp: Encoding HD Video for Viddler

Published May 3, 2011 by Colin Devroe in Using Viddler

Last week I went to a royal wedding party. The thing was a slice a British heaven. We danced the night away to an infinite playlist of Wham! songs and I ate so many Thomas’ English Muffins that I spent the latter half of the evening hunched over the loo.

But there was one thing that kept the night from being perfect: the broadcast we were watching wasn’t in HD. Bloody hell! Do you know how short-lived the two kisses were? I need to see that in as many pixels of resolution as possible! And how am I supposed to enjoy the intricacy of the elegant lace on Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen dress if the image isn’t at least 1280 pixels wide? I mean really!

So if you’re uploading to Viddler, don’t make the same mistakes as my gracious party hosts. Use the video below to learn how to encode your videos for high definition playback on Viddler. Because, frankly, I only want to watch your video if it’s in HD. If it’s not, I’m probably going to miss out. Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo.
