NY Video 2.0 July Meetup

Posted in Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on July 11, 2007

“What’s next for online video advertising?” This was the main question being asked, and answered, by panelist at the NY Video 2.0 July Meetup in New York City. Panelists include Dan Rayburn of Streaming Media (moderator), Kevin J. McGurn, VP, Advertising for NBC, Jeff Minsky, Director of Digital Media for OMD, Robert Victor, Product Manager, Emerging Media for DoubleClick, and Jed Savage, EVP, Strategy and Development for ScanScout.

With over 200 people in attendance and thousands of subscribers to this event - the NY Video 2.0 Meetup is quickly becoming one of the most valuable monthly meetups on the east coast. If you’re interested in attending, or speaking, at one of the NY Video 2.0 Meetups please see the official Meetup page for this event.

Thanks to Rob Sandie (sandieman), Viddler’s own President, for going to New York City as often as he can to shoot this event and share the video for all to see. I’m looking forward to going to a future NY Video 2.0 Meetup again. (See Aprils NY Video 2.0 Meetup video that I had the privilege to shoot).

A conversation with Brian Shaler

Posted in Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on June 13, 2007

Last Friday I was able to sit down with Viddler Brian Shaler (brianshaler) from Phoenix, Arizona to record “A conversation with Brian Shaler“. Brian and I talk about his featured video called Hey Ya - Typography Animation.

We spoke on the phone while we both recorded ourselves with our cameras and then we put the two videos together. Turns out to be a pretty neat way to conduct video interviews when I live in Northeast Pennsylvania and he lives in Arizona.

Thanks for doing the interview Brian. It was a lot of fun.

ViddlerTV: Episode One (beta)

Posted in Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on May 10, 2007

ViddlerTV has been around for a little while and we’ve posted some great videos under that banner. And we’ll continue to do so - covering a wide range of topics and events for the foreseeable future. However, we really wanted to start “a show” that had everything to do with Viddler and all of our great Viddlers - so we’re also going to use ViddlerTV for that purpose.

I should have called this first episode “Contact me, and we’ll figure it out, together!” but I’m not that creative it seems. This first run of ViddlerTV is a test and an introduction on how we’ll structure the show and how all of you can interact with it. We’re hoping to do at least one episode per week covering your questions from the forum, highlighting the best videos and hardest working Viddlers that we find. Don’t hesitate to send me a message and suggest topics, etc. So, enjoy our first episode (beta).

Questions answered

1. Using Blogger by vtjones
2. Video to desktop? by Dirty-Dan
3. Change login name? by bkmc
4. Can I use an iSight? by ballistik

Other topics covered:
1. Our issues this morning with our storage server.
2. My cat as a lolcat.
3. The lolrobs!

If you would like to suggest a video, or a topic, or just ask a question for ViddlerTV send me a message, use our forums, or just comment on this post.

Video 2.0 March Meetup in New York City

Posted in Featured, Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on April 4, 2007

Rob Sandie (sandieman) went to the Video 2.0 March Meetup in New York City at Columbia University and records nearly 2 hours of unedited video footage. He took the time to go through and time tag the interesting moments so take a look at the video and experience Video 2.0 as if you were there.

Thanks for shooting the footage Rob. Looks like some really great presentations and an interesting meetup. I hope I never get stood up at the avatar prom.

If you would like to suggest a video to be featured on our blog please send me a message, use our forums, or just comment on this post.

Planning for the Web 2.0 Expo

Posted in Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on April 4, 2007

The entire Viddler team is going to be attending the Web 2.0 Expo and Web2Open in San Francisco, California. Yesterday we had a strategy meeting to get all of our notes about the expo together and go over what we’d like to accomplish while we’re there. Rob Sandie, Donna DeMarco, Harry Snodgrass, and I (Colin Devroe) met in Viddler’s Bethlehem, Pennsylvania offices to have this meeting. Here is a quick recap of what we went over:

We’re looking forward to attending this year’s Web 2.0 Expo and we’re going to be announcing some details regarding what Viddler will be doing at the Expo, where we’ll hanging out after the event - and how you can be involved. More details coming in the next few days, stay tuned.

If you are going to be in San Francisco from April 14th to 19th 2007 - send me a message!

The Chestnut Hill Coffee Company

Posted in Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on March 30, 2007

Rob Sandie (sandieman) recently stopped by The Chestnut Hill Coffee Company and did an interview with its founder John Hornall. Rob was thoroughly impressed with the place because while he was there he sent me an IM “You have to check this place out!”. Rob was able to get a thorough tour of the place, as well as interview John about his and the shop’s history. Take a look at the video:

Rob isn’t alone in his love of this place. Accolades for The Chestnut Hill Coffee Company have poured in from all over. Read some of this from a review by Bill the self proclaimed “dedicated coffee fanatic”.

The decor and environment struck me as extremely creative. There were two floors (rare) with a variety of ample seating. I think they were even voted Best of Philly Magazine for child-friendly space.

The coffee was really good. Very smooth and full-flavored. It seemed they only had a limited offering of coffees (I didn’t see anything else), though I’m pretty sure they roast their own and have more. They also seemed to focus on blends instead of single-origin, but I think they actually know what they’re doing when they blend…

The espresso was well-done and very tasty. The barista who did it (I think it was John Hornall) was definitely trained in the ways of good technique and timing.

Bill was right, they did win for best kid-friendly coffee shop from Philly Magazine. Here are some other words from Viddler user and coffee shop fanatic Chris Tingom:

“This is probably my favorite coffee shop I have ever been to. Not only do they have great drinks and make coffee experience feel like you were drinking a a $30 glass of wine but they have free wi-fi! If you live in the Philadelphia area, it’s a must see!” — (on Arizona Coffee)

Coming from someone that pretty much owns the coffee tag here on Viddler, I’d say that is high praise indeed. I can’t wait to visit The Chestnut Hill Coffee Company the next time I’m in Philadelphia.

At SXSW: Panel: What Does the Future Hold for Video on the Internet

Posted in Viddler TV by Colin Devroe on March 21, 2007

Rob Sandie, President of Viddler, had the privilege of attending the “What does the future hold for video on the Internet” panel at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas last week. I’m upset I missed this one because it sure did seem like a lot of fun.

The panel was moderated by Eddie Codel of Geek Entertainment TV and the panelists included Micki Krimmel of Revver, Kent Nichols of Ask a Ninja, Scott Watson of Walt Disney R&D, and Kevin Rose of Digg. Be sure to check it out and all of their shows/services. Thanks for a great panel guys.

If you were at this panel, or have more information about it - please let us know. Thanks for watching.
