Viddler Analytics – Video statistics made easy.

Published October 27, 2009 by Colin Devroe in Announcements

On what Web sites are my videos being seen? Which of my videos are the most popular? Which are the least popular? Who is watching my videos? How much of my video are they watching? Are my videos popular in France?

These are the questions that most businesses face when distributing video online. Video is now more portable than ever and while this gives your videos a potential world wide audience, it can be a real challenge to find the answers.

Until now. Viddler is proud to announce the immediate release of a new feature for our Business and Partner level accounts: Viddler Analytics. Here is a quick video overview of Viddler Analytics by our Lead Designer Andrew Smith.

Comprehensive statistics about your videos are now only a click away. Of course, Viddler Analytics answers even more questions than those above. How much storage has my account used this month? How much video bandwidth have we used so far? Am I close to my account level threshold yet? These questions, and others, are very important to our Business level accounts.

Our Partner level accounts have yet a different set of questions that they’d like answers to. Perhaps they’d like to know how many comments they’ve received on their videos, how much of the video was watched by how many people, or be able to drill down on a video-per-video basis for detailed statistics.

Viddler Analytics is a major leap forward in answering all of these questions and more. If you have a Business or Partner level account, you can access this new feature at Viddler.com/analytics/. If your account has not yet been upgraded to Business or Partner level, you can click on You > Upgrade (if you’re logged in) or visit our Business Services page.

Thanks to our friends at TubeMogul for providing us with a rich set of in-play statistics to make Viddler Analytics possible.

Viddler is dedicated to providing the very best online video service and experience for our customers and so we’re happy to be putting this tool into their hands today. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments.

I love this feature. I really think it’s going to be a game changer for businesses. Beautiful interface too!

I like how you demoed Wine Library TV. Gary Vay*ner*chuk is the man!

Oh, and Viddler rocks too :-) Keep up the great work.

Brett: We’re very sorry for that. We tried to make it look as bad as possible. ;) Thanks again for the great API!

Looks awesome! Is there an API for this so we can tie it into our site for our users?

Looks great! Love the extra features you guys are building out. Really smooth interface and definitely provides a lot more information to base decisions on.

Just a quick follow up… A feature I’d love to see is the ability to sort my videos by attention span. Obviously views is important, but attention span in my mind is like a “quality” score, and will be a useful metric to help determine what future videos should look & sound like.

    Very nice looking interface!

Is the UI provided by TubeMogul or are they just provided the data that you are using in your own analytics engine?

What technology are you using to create the graphs etc?

Kris Brewer: At current this feature is available for account admins only via our Web site. We do plan to expose this data through our own API in the future and we’ll keep you up-to-date as to when that will happen.

Dave Cole: Thank you so much for detailing your request so nicely. We will do our best to loop back with you personally on whether or not we can make that feature a reality.

Geoff Brash: Perhaps one day I’ll have our Lead Designer Andrew and one of our Systems Architects Maciek, who both worked on this particular project, to detail out all of the goodies behind the scenes.

I can tell you this, however, that we are only using data from TubeMogul. We are pulling data from a few sources and providing it through this custom-designed user interface. Thanks for the question Geoff!

I would love to know how long you’ve been working on this. From the moment you said in a meeting “hey, we should have statistics”, until now. My boss keeps insisting on things like this but he does not understand the complexity of it. He suffers the “spreadsheet syndrome”…
And the fact that the UI looks so neat and so “simple” and uncomplicated makes him think it would be even easier to make (since it’s so simple & easy…)
So it would be great to have a real-world example of how long it takes to put something like this together (because it’s obviously something that takes more than just a couple of weeks).

    Thanks!

Nice app guys. Out of interest, how long does it take for usage data to show up in the analytics report?

  15. Colin Devroe says

    November 9, 2009 - 12:35 pm

Tim: The data shown on the site is just about 24 hours delayed (depending on your timezone). So, think of it as up-to “previous day” stats.

Hi, love your new stats. I have a question though, the Top Videos box has a column for bandwidth per video, which would be really useful except all of my videos say N/A. I noticed the same is true in your demo video. So when will we see actual numbers in that column?
