Webm/VP8 on the loose
Hello– Viddler’s Defender of Castles/TheTodd/@xtat here.
VP8 has come to public release and browsers are lining up support. The codec is not perfect, but there is significant value in a truly free codec for the world’s video, and this is an exciting time.
I took some time yesterday to build an encoder for this format and if there is significant interest, we will include encoding to Webm/VP8 with Viddler’s HTML5 support.
A sample video encoded with VP8/Vorbis(Webm) is attached to the bottom of this post, though it will only be viewable if you have a browser recently patched for vp8 support such as a nightly chrome build.

May 21, 2010 - 5:08 pmI was thinking of building an encoder in a bit of my spare time….
but when I realized that Todd had already beat me to it, …so I figured…..
What the heck…I'll just use Todds.
Sure are glad you are part of the V team.

Video looks good though, and good to see the enthusiasm for open video.

May 24, 2010 - 1:04 pmVery interesting, bod- thanks for mentioning this. I will build the next iteration with libvorbis support. I was pretty surprised how good the video looked with basically default vp8 settings.
