Get a wine cork out of a bottle

Published May 27, 2007 by Colin Devroe in Featured

How can you get a wine cork out of a bottle without breaking it? Viddler entr200 has shared a video with us explaining just that.

I would have never guessed that this would work. Now I’ll know for the next time I try really, really hard to get a cork into a wine bottle!

If you would like to suggest a video to be featured on our blog please send me a message, use our forums, or just comment on this post.

Neat trick…but, really, what's the point of getting the cork out of an empty bottle? This trick wouldn't work on a mostly full bottle of wine, which is when most people would want to remove a cork that has fallen in and could potentially ruin the wine. I imagine it would be a pretty messy attempt.

[...] Your cork fell into the bottle and now you want it out? No need to break the bottle – you can pull it out with a plastic bag and a little ingenuity. Hit the video to see how. Thanks, Antony! [via Viddler Development Blog] [...]

Personally I would just break the bottle…

I think it might work with a partially full bottle as the cork will already be close enough to the top for the bag to grab it. Worth trying certainly in spite of a little mess.

    gee whiz fellows!

this excellent trick works with any bottle, full or empty. c'mon!

if it's full, just turn the bottle on its side and pour out some liquid in a cup to make room.

you don't need to fit a huge bag in there.

a small balloon could work too.

    thx entr200

Hi, I have a green glass container that was corked for years but when I went to use it, the cork fell into the bottle with my attempt to get it out. I went online to get some tips on getting it out. When I came across this tip, However I had already put water in the container (don't ask why) and when I went to perform this trick, I poured the water out and the cork rose all the way to the top and positioned itself into the opening so much so that I was able to pull it out easily. So I didn't get to use the bag trick. But that cork is gone. Go figure.

This trick is amazing! I had dropped a cork into the bottle of wine I had just purchased, ans I had tried everything to get it out. I found this after I had given up for the night. HOLY COW! Took my less than 5 mins! I'd recommend this to anyone!
