MVM: Jay Soul is Uncooked

Published May 18, 2009 by djsteen in Featured, Music Video Monday

Yup! I took the raw/uncooked metaphor used in this original track from Jesal, entitled “Streets Ahead”. Hold on. Jesal or Jay Soul? Both, actually. Since 1998 the London MC has also been known as Jay Soul (a play on words of his real name). From a producer to a critic, he’s been involved in every aspect of the music industry and now he’s gearing up for the release of his debut album “Automagic”.

What I love about Jesal is that he isn’t afraid to talk himself up. The majority of the lyrics in “Streets Ahead” are about how awesome he is and while some may think that’s self centered at least he’s honest. He’s unique, fresh, and just what rap needs. Rap? This isn’t just rap. It’s a mix of genres blended together to create his own genre featuring percussion, Indian tablas, Arabic drums, and chimes to complement a sweet baseline.

When you put all of that musical goodness into a video it creates something pretty spectacular. Especially when the video is commissioned by Radar Music Videos (subscribe). The majority of the video was recorded in front of a green screen, and unlike some indie music videos it’s keyed perfectly so you don’t see fuzzy lines around people. What’s even more impressive is the camera looks as though it’s constantly moving through urban landscapes, namely parking garages.

Don’t forget to full-screen this baby!

This music video was created by Danxzen. Check out more os his work using the Radar Music Videos networking and commissioning platform.

About the music

Don’t worry, Influenza Music won’t give you the flu. Although, you might just want to spread it around like the flu. Jesal is the founder and CEO of Influenza Music. As previously mentioned, Jesal has touched every aspect of the music industry. He often reviews music on rapreviews.com, and his DJ skills rival those that you might hear in a Dance Trippin’ TV video. In other words, he’s awesome! I’ve already told you that though. Go and check out Jesal for yourself.

Oh, and his DJ skills are for hire in the UK. If you’re sick of those bland DJs, you might want to check him out!

If you’ve seen a music video that made you all giddy, then send me a message and tell me about it. Music Video Monday is here for your enjoyment!

Hey it is really cool that you picked up this video – it is getting a lot of attention in the UK industry without any kind of promotion, and people are really feeling the creative aspect of it. I know someone that knows Jesal/Jay Soul though – the video was definitely NOT shot with green screen. Apparently, they just rocked up guerrila-style to cool places in London and shot in the freezing cold at night! Anyway love the MVM’s, thanks.
