I’m sure you’ve watched one of those home makeover shows where the host pops up that cool design program on his/her laptop to show homebuyers what a distressed, under-their-budget house could look like with a little TLC. It’s a cool concept, and they make it look so easy, so my question is: Is it? Answer: Yes … thanks to SketchUp.
SketchUp, a 3-D modeling software, in collaboration with Igloo Studios, which is a partner of Trimble SketchUp and a customer of Viddler, helps design professionals sketch out what a room or an entire building could look like, while providing the tools and training to transform those sketches into real things.
Back in 2005, when Igloo Studios was founded, the main goal of the three-man team was (and is) to provide stellar service and support to design professionals utilizing the SketchUp tool. However, the team quickly realized they didn’t have the man hours or the human capability to adequately train the rapidly-growing SketchUp user base. So, if they couldn’t train each client in person, what better way to do so than through a video tutorial? The team started by producing a podcast called, “The SketchUp Show.” The podcast is still going strong today with millions of views of its brief, advanced SketchUp workflow tips.
In light of the podcast’s success, the Igloo team launched subscription-only online video training videos on its School website. This library of videos demonstrates what SketchUp can offer any design professional at any stage of their career, helping to inspire and motivate them.
Online video has become the clearest and most effective form of communication Igloo Studios could ever offer because it not only allows them to explain the value proposition that SketchUp offers to a variety of professionals, but it provides an outlet to demonstrate it … over and over again. With the help of Viddler, School provides access to Igloo Studio videos anytime, anywhere, on any device.
Igloo has also deployed Viddler-powered video elsewhere with the creation of educational marketing videos that highlight features and benefits of Product Connect, a plugin for SketchUp.
In a nutshell, Igloo Studios offers tools and training to help designers work with real products in SketchUp. And it uses Viddler to help educate and inspire SketchUp users around the world. See how:
